You’re going to love your new Brentwood Home mattress. After all, it’s a luxury mattress handcrafted for you in our certified organic California workshop. While some folks love it after the first night, it takes some adjusting for others. Here are three tips to ensure your new mattress works for you. Still not sure how to get it out of the box? We can help with that, too.

Give It Time

You can sleep on your mattress right away — it should expand to it's full size within a few hours. Once you do start sleeping on it, keep in mind that it takes time for your body to adjust to a new mattress, and there may even be some aches and pains along the way. Don’t worry, that’s a natural, temporary reaction to your new luxury support system. Give yourself at least 30 days, and rest-assured you have a full year to make sure it’s right for you.

No Box Springs

Don’t use a box spring. Box springs have internal springs, which can add excessive bounce and motion transfer to your mattress. We recommend using a foundation (like this one) or a similarly rigid, breathable surface. Read more about supporting your mattress here.

Will It Smell or Off-Gas?

You may notice a natural scent from your new Brentwood Home mattress, but it will go away quickly. You can trust that our mattresses are made with natural, certified safe materials, and they won't off-gas or emit VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in your home.

Time For New Pillows?

Experiencing neck, shoulder, or back pain? A proper pillow is more than an indulgence, it provides proper support for your head, neck, and upper back. In short, a great pillow will help keep your spine properly aligned and prevent neck pain. If your pillow is more than 2-3 years old, it's time to replace them. Brentwood Home offers a range of pillows to suit every kind of sleeper.

Rotate Your Mattress

You never need to flip your mattress — every Brentwood Home mattress (with the exception of the dual-sided Crystal Cove) has a dedicated top and bottom, indicated by our logo on the front. However, to ensure even compression of your support layers, you do need to rotate your mattress 180 degrees once a month for the first 6 months, and then once every 6 months for a year thereafter. Failure to properly rotate your mattress will void the terms of your Sleep Trial. Read more about rotating your mattress here.
